Prerequisite preparations
I understand that I am required to complete the following preparations to improve my participation in the course: 1. Reading and studying of Pre-and Perinatal Massage Therapy and at least one other book about pregnancy and birth (recommended: Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn or Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Year). 2. Anatomical study.
Practicum
I understand that if I live within one hour of the course location that I am responsible for locating and scheduling a pregnant woman to receive a massage on the third afternoon of the course. If this is impossible, I will contact the sponsoring organization directly within two weeks of the course beginning to make alternative arrangements.
Certification Requirements
I understand that I will receive certification and continuing education credits for this course ONLY if I have satisfactorily performed on both the theoretical test (minimum 80% score) and the hands-on evaluations (satisfactory in accuracy, pressure, sensitivity, speed, rhythm, positioning, draping, client interaction, and body mechanics). Although most students complete the program within the four workshop days, I understand that if my in-class test and evaluation are not both satisfactory, I will be required to do further study, practice, and evaluation in order to be certified and get CEU documentation.
Special Note to Course Repeaters
Many successful, certified graduates retake the Pre and Perinatal Massage Therapy certification workshop. NCBTMB allows one repetition of a course. In order to receive CEU credits you must attend the entire workshop and participate in all portions, including hands-on practicum and taking the written exam. BTA offers graduates a 25% tuition discount. Most schools that sponsor our workshop will allow the same discount, but please contact us first so we can check with the sponsoring school to see if this is permissible.
